Canine Portraiture

By nature, a portrait is personal and I appreciate that every client is entrusting me with their image. Each time, my goal is to create a painting that presents the sitter at their best, while still bringing something of their inner self to the surface. It is that ‘intangible essence’ that makes a portrait magical, drawing viewers back again and again.

Creating a Portrait

A custom portrait by a professional artist is not merely a representation or likeness of a person or animal. The creative choices in color, style and presentation are balanced to present the sitter at their best, while creating a painting that stands on its own as a work of art.

This process and challenge is a passion of mine. I will work with you to create a family heirloom that will stand the test of time and that you will love to look at for years to come.

Photography

Because I work from photography, it is very important that this resource is high quality. The subtle information in the photography will directly influence the quality of the painting, making it crucial that we do not skimp on this step.

Typically, a one-hour photo shoot will provide me with the resources I need to do the painting. If you are not located in the LA area, it may be possible for me to travel at an additional charge, or we may hire a professional photographer in your area that will do the photo shoot under my direction.

The miniature dog or child portraits are the only pieces that it may be possible for the client to take the photographs (please see my instructions).
